Placemat Portfolio - project by Sally Red

Start with a plain, inexpensive double sided, fabric placemat. (This one came from a local dollar store.) Fold up the bottom edge about 3 1/2inches and press using a steam iron.
Mark the center front of the portfolio with a water soluble pen. Hoop a piece of Peel-N-Stick stabilizer. Center align needle, design and center marking and stitch out design of choice.
Pictured in the sample is the Precious Moments font. Other designs worth considering are the Art Nouveau Frames and monograms, two letter monograms, and the Golden Rome font set.

Fold embroidered placemat in thirds. Mark pen placement with a water soluble marker and stitch along these lines with a reinforcing stitch on your machine, or back tack a straight stitch.
Sew a snap closure or use Velcro dots or even ribbon ties to complete your portfolio. You can add pretty note cards and a pen to accessorize your project perfect for your own use or as a gift for a special friend.

Embellished Shoe - project by Bobbie Berry

Heirloom Frames and Mono-Dream Font

Hoop 2 layers of water soluble stabilizer with 2 layers of tulle. Stitch the Heirloom Frame 4 design. Cut out embroidery leaving about 1" around it.
Then rinse away the excess WSS. Lay flat to dry.
After the embroidery is dry, trim closely to stitching without cutting the embroidery design.
Select the shoes you want to embellish and lightly spray adhesive on shoe surface....when tacky apply the embroidery. Adjust the embroidery to fit the shoe..... you may need to scotch tape the edges of the embroidery until it dries.

Beautiful Borders - Project by Sally Red

Beautiful borders are easy to do and add a finishing touch to your projects.  To illustrate just how and elegant border treatments can be, I have used the very versatile Victoriana Font.
First, select the “S” from the monogram design set and stitch it out, mirror imaged, along the border of a tea towel.
Next, freehand draw a line with a water soluble pen echoing the design shape.
Finish the raw edge with a zigzag or serge stitching.  At this point, you could simply fold the finished edge under and topstitch or apply trims or binding to your preference.
To complete your towel just stitch out the monogram of choice…
and you have a beautifully bordered tea towel. A border can dress up a guest towel, too!
To see another project made with this font, look for the casserole carrier tutorial in the project gallery.  Other design sets with beautiful coordinating borders that would be perfect for similar projects would be Bindweed, Mistletoe and Poppy Font sets.  Sally Red

Pillow For Day Bed - Project by Bobbie Berry

Assemble 3 designs from Vanity Set. Print templates and place in desired configuration.
Stitch design on Guest Towel using the templates for correct placement.  Use Water Soluble Stabilizer. Wash out WSS, dry and press.
Weave silk ribbon through hemstitching and tie bow.
Stitch side seams right sides together and press open.  Stitch bottom seam.
Make fitted cover for pillow out of a darker color than the linen guest towel pillowcase. This will make the embroidery stand out more with a darker color behind it.
Slide pillow inside pillowcase. Finished. Bobbie Berry

Pillows with Victorian Whitework Initials by Sharon Harper

Instruction For Beige Pillow
Center monogram from Victorian Whitework Font on fabric, leaving at least 8-10 inches from each side of the monogram for project completion.  Back design area of fabric with tear away stabilizer, hoop fabric, and complete design. Remove from machine, tear away stabilizer. PRESS on WRONG side of fabric.  Cut pillow back of same or contrasting fabric. Stitch back to front, right sides together, using 1/2 seam, and leaving bottom end open for stuffing. Press flat.
Measure 4" all the way around from the edge of the monogram design and mark with "air erase" pen. Using a winged needle and same thread as embroidery work, sew a hemstitch (or straight) ON THREE SIDES.  Make a pillow insert the size of the finished inside design. Stuff into the project design, pushing up and pinning to hold until the final hemstitch row can be completed. Complete the final hemstitch row at the bottom of the opening to finish the project.
Instruction for White, Irish Linen Pillow
Select monogram design from Victorian Whitework FontCenter on fabric, leaving at least 8-10 inches on ALL FOUR SIDES for project completion. Back design area of fabric with tear away stabilizer, hoop and complete design. Remove from hoop, tear away stabilizer, PRESS ON WRONG SIDE.
Sew a row of wide ribbon on each side of front, approximately 3"-4" from design area.  Center an overlay of lace over ribbon and stitch in place. To make button back, cut two pieces of fabric the height of the front with the width having a 4" overlay on the center.  Turn under and hem center opening pieces of back, adding a light weight stiffing.  Overlap and make three buttonholes on one side.
Sew buttons on the other side to line up with buttonholes. Make pillow insert to fit, stuff and button to finish. (No exact sizes are given so that this pillow can be made to any size.) Sharon Harper

White-on-Black Tote by Ruth Brown

The simple elegance of this tote bag reminds how beautiful minimalistic style can be. The black and white combination of fabric and embroidery loks great here. Ruth used Cherry Punch embroidery font for personalizing the tote.

Here is Ruth's detailed instruction for sewing the tote:
1. Cut fabric in 2 pcs 20 inches by 15 inches (or adjust to the size of market bag you want).
2. Find the center and about 8 inches down from top of fabric for the monogram.
Since my fabric is a rather heavy decorator fabric, I centered it over the hoop and used the "fix" on my machine to hold the fabric and extra backing in place.
3. After monogramming, stitch the 2 pieces of fabric face together on the sides and across the bottom.
4. Stitch across the bottom left and right sides centering the seams with a pin and then stitching across 4 inches.

5. Clip the very end off to make the bottom of the market bag lay flat.
6. Turn it right side out and pin the seam allowance to hold it until you assemble the bag.
7. Insert the lining bag into the monogrammed outside bag, pin, and stitch around the top.
My interior lining canvas bag was already prepared with a loop for the button and interior pockets.
8. Now, find the prettiest shank button for the closure!

Victorian Whitework Projects by Betsy Faske

Bridal Shower Gift by Betsy Faske

The embroidery designs are from our popular Victorian Whitework series - take a look at all of it's various designs

This cool set of guest towels and matching pillowcases was created by Betsy Faske, as a gift for bridal shower.

- Due to the high stitch count for the towels, Betsy floated 2 layers of medium-weight tearaway stabilizer below the hoop.
- 100% polyester embroidery thread was used for this project, since polyester holds well in laundry.
- 3 layers of Water Soluble Backing was used on top of the towels, to prevent stitches from sinking into the terry cloth.

Victoriana Shirt

This incredible shirt was embroidered by Betsy Faske, the owner of Needles and Pins (www.betsysneedlesandpins.com).
As you may see, Betsy combined several designs from Victorian Whitework series to assemble the huge ornament on back of the shirt. Some designs were stitched in solid burgundy thread color, while the other ones - with variegated thread. The multicolor thread is just amazing for those designs!
